Child Sensitive Social Protection in Bangladesh (CSPB)

Department of Social Services has been implementing ‘Child Sensitive Social Protection in Bangladesh’ (CSPB) project in 20 UNDAF districts under the Ministry of Social Welfare with the technical & financial support of UNICEF from January 2012 to December 2016. The project provided social protection services especially safe shelter, NFE, psychosocial services, primary health care, vocational training to 13,712 street children through Drop in-Center (DIC), Emergency Night Shelter (ENS), Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) and Open Air Street Schools (OAS) and reintegrated 601 street children to the family and society. Following ‘Amader Shishu’ model 4165 orphan and vulnerable children especially children in tea-garden received conditional cash transfer (CCT). Moreover, 133 children received CCT especially who have lost their parents in Savar Tragedy.

 

Child Helpline: The partner organization ‘Aparajeyo Bangladesh’ of CSPB project is implementing toll free Child Helpline programme for the children at risk in 8 thanas of old Dhaka to provide necessary support to the vulnerable including working children as preventive measures. Child Helpline already provided support services to 12228 children at and adults.

 

Provide Telephonic counseling through Child Helpline 1098. Provide emergency support through Safe Home. Rescuing Children at risk and providing social protection services through referral and networking. Provide reintegrate children in the family or in the community. Promoting community participation for protecting children child labour, child marriage and corporal punishment. Communication for development for mass awareness.

 

Transformation of Institutional Care: The project developing capacity of caregiver’s, promoting minimum standard of care, strengthening case management for each and every child and initiating reintegration for the appropriate children in selected 9 institutions under transformation of institutional care component. CSPB project already completed experiment of ‘online case management system’ in Sarkari Shishu Paribar (girls)-Bhola and Cox’sbazar, Safe Home-Sylhet, KUK-Jessore and a DIC of partner organization.

 

Child Protection Network: Child Protection Network Committee developed at the district and upazila level headed by Deputy Commissioner and Upazial Nirbahi Officer to promote child sensitive social protection system at the grassroots level. In order to develop institutional capacity, project provided 2 weeks Basic Social Services Training (BSST) to the 1158 Social Workers and 4 weeks Professional Social Services Training (PSST) to the 1082 Social Workers, Case Management Training the 137 Social Workers, Child Development Training to 505 caregivers, Training of Trainers (ToT) on lifeskills to 27 caregivers working with children in institutions, Cash Support Implementation Guideline 115 and Case management Application 18.
